Reading Now

It has been a full year since I last updated this blog. Our book club has been in full swing since then. I have enjoyed our current pick so much that I was inspired to write here again.

Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum is one of those books that I can't put down. I also don't want it to end. It is set during a period of history (WW2) that fascinates me. And Jenna's writing is very easy to read. Of the two main characters, Trudie (daughter) is more predictable than Anna (mother). Anna is so complex and I find myself questioning her behaviour, and whether I would react/feel/behave the same way. Looking forward to discussing this book at our next meeting.

Jenna has written another book - The Stormchasers. It's now on my "to read" list.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

January was a long time ago but I wanted to make a note here for myself that I LOVED this book. It was so different and such a pleasure to read. I love the romance and feeling of anticipation that hand written letters bring. I remember how much I looked forward to my Grandma Hazel's letters as a child and young adult. E-mail is just not the same. It's so instantaneous. Letters require patience, both for the sender and the receiver. I'm going to try to write more letters.

The books for February and March were just OK for me. With regards to Into Thin Air, I am absolutely certain that climbing Mount Everest is not on my bucket list.

The Book of Unholy Mischief

Overall, I think everyone enjoyed the book. Some comments:

- a bit slow at times
- liked the descriptions of the food and menus
- wished Luciano would stop meddling
- some good messages/life lessons

We discussed the time period during which the book was set and what it would be like to live then. Nikki has been to Venice so she described what it is like there. I think I'd like to visit some day.

Please feel free to add any comments you have about the book. Gale, did you like it?

We are reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society next and will meet on January 20th at Coffee Culture.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The Book Thief

Everyone agreed that although this book was sad, it was a great read. I'll be recommending this book to a couple of friends for sure.

We're leaving Germany now and travelling to Italy. Enjoy the trip! :)

I changed the comments settings so please let me know if it worked.

The overall consensus was that the book was an enjoyable read but not Lori's best. Laura, Gale and Alyson, we missed you. Gale, hope you are feeling better.

Welcome!

OK, so I really need to be in bed sleeping but I thought I would get this going. For those of you unfamiliar with blog territory, blogs are quite interactive. First of all, you can subscribe to our blog's feed, which means you will be notified by e-mail when something new is posted to the blog. You can also leave comments on the blog posts (this is a blog post). If you would like to post something to the blog, I think you will have to e-mail it to me and I will post it due to security reasons. (oh, so high tech!)

On the left hand side of our blog I have posted a link to our first three books on Amazon. If you would like me to add anything else, let me know. I'll see if I can add a calendar and post our meeting dates/times/places.

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of our first book in the mail. Amazon is pretty quick so I may even get it tomorrow.

Happy Reading!
